Why You Should Read To Your Baby and Our Favorite Books
As a new parent, don’t overlook the importance of reading with your baby from day 1. It helps fill the awake hours during the day and creates a peaceful connection before bedtime. Board books are a great place to start when reading to baby because they can be tossed around without damage, are shorter text for small attention spans and have bright colorful images.
Reading to baby is a favorite pastime of our registered baby nurses. It stimulates brain and language development, while allowing for close cuddle time to bond with baby.
Kidshealth.org says:
When you read to your baby:
1. Your baby hears you using many different emotions and expressive sounds. This supports social and emotional development.
2. It encourages your baby to look, point, touch, and answer questions. This helps with social development and thinking skills.
3. Your baby improves language skills by copying sounds, recognizing pictures, and learning words.
